James Hanset is a native of Portland, OR and has 19 years of experience in the food service industry. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management at Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island. There, he worked as a teaching assistant before moving on to his first job at the Hershey Resort in Hershey, PA. James returned to Portland to become the sous chef at Reed College.
International cuisine is James’ specialty and to reinforce his knowledge in this area, he took a 3-month culinary tour of France, Spain and Italy. James is passionate about cultures around the world and the flavor profiles associated with those cultures. This passion is evident in his presentation of international foods. He is frequently complimented for the authenticity of his recipes and his clients often say, "This is just like how my mother used to make it."
James has won awards for his culinary expertise including gold and silver medals in the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) Competition.
Not only is James committed to providing the best possible service to his clients, he is equally dedicated to serving his community as a volunteer.
